Muslim US congresswoman sees increased death threats after Trump's tweet
US senator Ilhan Omar

MUSLIM United States Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has been subject to an increase in death threats since President Donald Trump tweeted about her speech on Islamophobia.

The Democrat has been targeted for last month’s speech, in which she pointed out that Muslims have faced discrimination since the 9/11 terror attacks on New York’s World Trade Centre. Republicans have accused her of downplaying the attack.

On Friday Mr Trump tweeted a video of Ms Omar’s speech to a backdrop of menacing music and news footage of the destruction of the twin towers.
