Iranian police fire at protesters, killing two
In this frame grab Iranian police arrive to disperse a protest to mark 40 days since the death in custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, whose tragedy sparked Iran's biggest antigovernment movement in over a decade, in Tehran, Iran, Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022.

IRANIAN police fired at protesters and killed two people today as thousands gathered near the grave of Mahsa Amini, according to rights groups.

Demonstrators had come together on the 40th day of 22-year-old Ms Amini’s death, which is a significant day of mourning in many Middle Eastern countries, at her home city Saqqez.

Security forces had been deployed a day earlier in the city and other parts of the Kurdistan province in anticipation of the actions.
