10 dead in Colorado in seventh mass shooting in as many days
People are led out of a King Soopers supermarket after a gunman killed 10 people inside on Monday

TEN people were killed in Colorado on Monday in the seventh mass shooting in the United States in as many days.

A man armed with an AR15 assault rifle opened fire on shoppers in a busy supermarket in Boulder.

One of the victims was Eric Talley, the first police officer to respond to the shooting.

A shirtless man with blood dripping down his leg was filmed being escorted away by heavily armed police after the incident.

The Boulder Police Department announced today that it has identified a 21-year-old man as the suspect. The motive is not yet known.

The shooting came just a week after eight people, six of them Asian-Americans, were murdered by a white man in Atlanta, Georgia, last Tuesday.

Five people were injured in a mass shooting in California on Wednesday; four were injured in Oregon on Thursday and 17 were injured and two killed in three separate shootings in Texas and Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Last Monday, a Colorado judge upheld a bid by the National Rifle Association’s affiliate in the state to block Boulder council from enforcing a ban on assault weapons and large magazines.

Left-wing Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar condemned the spate of mass shootings on social media today.

She said: “Our communities are living in terror and they need more than our ‘thoughts and prayers.’

“No more cowering to the gun lobby. We need to pass gun safety legislation now.”
