THE University and College Union is demonstrating outside the Senedd tomorrow to demand better funding of courses in Wales.
The rally was planned before last week’s announcement that four departments at Cardiff University are to be axed, with the loss of 400 jobs.
The UCU is urging members and trade unionists to gather in Cardiff Bay from 12.30 to 1.30pm.
TUC Cymru general secretary Shavanah Taj, who will be one of the speakers at the event, is whipping up support for the rally.
UCU Cymru national officer Gareth Lloyd said: “It is crucial that as many members, officers, representatives and allies come together outside the Senedd to fight for the future of higher and further education in Wales.”
UCU members at Cardiff University are being balloted for industrial action in response to the planned cuts.
The Welsh government has been criticised for its lack of response to the cuts, which include the closure of the university’s nursing degree course during a nurse recruitment crisis in Wales.
