Trial date set as alleged Liverpool parade driver remanded in custody

A FATHER of three accused of driving a car into a crowd at Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade was remanded in custody today as a judge set a date for his trial.

Paul Doyle, 53, is charged with seven offences over the incident on Water Street in the city centre on Monday, which left 79 people with injuries.

He is accused of two counts of wounding with intent, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of dangerous driving.

The charges relate to six victims, including two children aged 11 and 17.

Mr Doyle, of Croxteth, Liverpool, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth during the hearing at the city’s crown court.

Recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary fixed a provisional trial date of November 24.

His next court appearance is due to be a plea hearing on August 14.
