Swedish police say mass shooter was connected to school where he opened fire
Flowers and candles are placed at a makeshift memorial near the scene of a shooting at an adult education center on the outskirts of Orebro, Sweden, February 6, 2025

SWEDISH police said that the gunman in the country’s worst mass shooting was connected to the adult education centre where he opened fire on Tuesday, killing 10 other people.

Authorities said today that the shooter, named in some reports as Rickard Andersson, may have attended the centre in Orebo, a city 98 miles west of the capital Stockholm.

Police say they have identified the shooter but would “not publish his name yet, due to the investigation.”

Police say the gunman opened fire with a rifle-like weapon. He was later found dead, with a large amount of unused ammunition next to his body.

They added that the shooter had licences for four weapons, three of which were found next to his body.

Police say they are still investigating why the gunman carried out his attack on the Risbergska adult education centre. Local newspaper Aftonbladet reported that the shooter was previously enrolled at the centre but had not attended classes since 2021.

Police say at this stage they have no evidence to suggest that there was a terrorist motive for the attack or that the shooter was linked to any gangs.

They also said that the suspect had no previous police record and obtained his weapons legally.
