‘Sustained escalation’ of anti-Muslim hate in London, says Tell Mama

REPORTS of anti-Muslim hate in London have surpassed the total annual count for 2023 in just the first half of this year, monitoring organisation Tell Mama has said.

The group recorded 1,031 reports between January and June this year, exceeding the 1,028 recorded across all of 2023.

Annual reports have risen sixfold since 2021, from 313 that year to a record 1,909 in 2025.

Tell Mama director Iman Atta said: “What is most alarming is the trajectory — from just over 300 reports in 2021 to nearly 1,100 in the first half of this year alone.

“This is not a temporary blip, it is a sustained escalation of anti-Muslim hate, and it demands a sustained and uncompromising no-nonsense response from our public institutions.”

The figures come after a Unite the Kingdom rally organised by Tommy Robinson in May, at which protesters called for the “removal of Islam.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “We will not tolerate attacks on the Muslim community.”

A spokesperson for the mayor of London said anti-Muslim hate had “absolutely no place in London,” adding that the mayor had invested “a record £16 million” to support community groups tackling hate and intolerance.
