BRITAIN has been accused of “stark injustice” towards British Overseas Territories (BOT) citizens after it emerged today that a 69-year-old woman from Montserrat was left homeless after being refused free NHS care.

Council officials found Cherry Brown sleeping rough in a park in Swanley, Kent, in April.

Britain subsidised Montserratian government funding for her to travel to England to receive NHS treatment that was not available at home for hypertension and needs two knee replacements.

On arrival she could not stay with relatives and told that she did not have the right to housing or free medical treatment as a BOT citizen, according to the Guardian.

Montserrat MP Donaldson Romeo said “the injustice is stark” as he likened the case to the Windrush scandal in a letter to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The Home Office, which he said has offered to wipe “any alleged debts” if she voluntarily returned home, and the Foreign Office declined to comment.
