MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Holders Fiji face Japan in the Pacific Nations Cup final at Tokyo’s Chichibunomiya Stadium on Saturday morning. 

It’s a repeat of last year’s final which saw the Fijians survive a second-half Japanese fightback to win 33-27. Fiji are currently rated as the world’s ninth-best team, three places above Japan. 

The final is preceded by the third and fourth place match between Canada and the United States.


HORSE RACING: Five-time champion jockey Oisin Murphy had his hopes of retaining the title all but ended on Thursday when he was handed a three-day ban for careless riding. 

Murphy severely hampered title rival Billy Loughnane on his way to winning the second race at Yarmouth on 8/11 favourite Wykehurst Park. 

Loughnane currently leads Murphy by 12 winners in the championship with the season due to end on October 17.


MEN’S FOOTBALL: The English FA Cup second qualifying round continues this weekend with 80 fixtures including two-time winners Bury up against former Football League team Workington. 

Other highlights include tier nine Redcar playing Darlington from National League North, Chester at Anfield-based Lower Breck, Morecambe against Southport and Stafford Rangers taking on Hereford. 

Winners receive £3,375 in prize money, losers £1,125.


MEN’S BOXING: Jesus Ramos defends his WBC interim middleweight title against unbeaten Meiirim Nursultanov in California early Sunday morning. 

Arizona-born Ramos has won 19 of his 25 fights by knockout, suffering his only loss to interim WBC light-middleweight title holder Erickson Lubin. 

In Manchester, English champion John Hedges is up against Pat Brown for the vacant British and Commonwealth cruiserweight titles.
