MEN’S FOOTBALL: Evangelis Pavlidis’ stoppage-time penalty rescued a 2-2 draw for Jose Mourinho’s Benfica at home to Sporting Braga on Monday night and ensured they will take their season long unbeaten record into Sunday’s last fixture at Estoril.
Despite not losing a game, Benfica can’t win the Primeira League title as Porto already wrapped up the championship despite losing 3-1 to relegated AVS in their latest match.
HORSE RACING: National Hunt jockey Toby McCain-Mitchell has received a 32-day suspension for repeated excessive use of the whip during the last six months.
He was even found to have whipped twice above the permitted level in a race at Aintree last month, where he was promoted to first place after the winner was disqualified for excessive whipping.
McCain-Mitchell has just finished a 10-day ban for failing to pull up a tired horse.
MEN’S CRICKET: Defending champions Nottingham still top County Championship Division One despite their dull draw on Monday against last season’s runners-up, Surrey.
Olly Hannon-Dalby took match figures of 7-71 as second-placed Warwickshire thumped Yorkshire by 377 runs, Sussex cruised to a seven-wicket win over Leicestershire and tail-ender Ryan Hadley’s unbeaten 50 sealed Glamorgan’s two-wicket win over Somerset.
SPEEDWAY: Zach Cook top-scored with 13+1 points riding at number four as the Belle Vue Aces carved out a 49-41 win at King’s Lynn in Monday night’s only Premiership meeting.
Max Fricke led the way for King’s Lynn with 11 points.
The Aces top the table with a 100 per cent record from their opening three fixtures and are due to host defending champions Ipswich in Manchester on Thursday.
