NETBALL: The second round of Super League fixtures begin tomorrow evening with defending champions London Pulse at Cardiff’s House of Sport to face the Dragons.

Last year’s runners up Loughborough Lightning are in Leeds for tonight’s other game with both teams having won on the opening weekend. Manchester Thunder are up against London Mavericks tomorrow evening before Nottingham Forest host Birmingham on Sunday.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Mikel Oyarzabal scored a late penalty as Real Sociedad beat Athletic Bilbao 1-0 in Wednesday night’s Basque derby for a 2-0 aggregate victory that sets up a Copa del Rey final against Atletico Madrid.

Madrid lost 3-0 in the second leg of their last four clash against Barcelona but squeezed through 4-3 to reach their first final since 2013.

The cup winners qualify for the Europa League group stage.

HORSE RACING: Champion apprentice jockey Joe Leavy has been banned for five days after steering Penny Time to a win on its debut at Kempton Park on Wednesday evening but weighing in one and a half pounds lighter than he started the race.

Hugo Palmer, trainer of the Irish-bred horse, was also fined £750. Twenty-year old Leavy was suspended for 31 days at the end of last year for repeated excessive use of the whip.

ICE HOCKEY: Matthew Gleason netted twice as Coventry Blaze claimed a surprise 6-3 win in the second leg of their Challenge Cup semi final at holders Belfast for a whopping 9-5 aggregate success.

Table-topping Belfast are currently 22 points and six places ahead of Coventry in the Elite League. Coventry will face Nottingham Panthers in April’s final after the eight-time champions saw off the Sheffield Steelers.
