MEN’S FOOTBALL: Belgium face France in Tallinn for the first of tomorrow’s European Championship under-17s semi finals before Italy take on Spain also in the Estonian capital tomorrow evening. The Italians are the only undefeated team left in the competition while the French, last year’s runners-up, were the leading goalscorers during the group stage matches. Spain have the all-time most successful record at the annual tournament with nine trophy wins.
ATHLETICS: UK Athletics was fined £350,000 at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, having earlier pleaded guilty to the corporate manslaughter of paralympian Abdullah Hayayei. The UAE athlete had been practising at east London’s Newham stadium in 2017 when a metal cage collapsed on top of him. Described by the judge as a “wholly avoidable” incident, the official responsible for the equipment received a 175-hour community service order.
MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: It’s first against third as Leeds take on St Helens in tomorrow evening’s Super League action. The teams have both won nine of their opening 12 fixtures but Leeds sit top the table due to their hugely superior points difference. Second-placed Warrington, who have a game in hand on both Leeds and Saints and have won their last four matches, are not in action until tomorrow night when they host Hull FC.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: San Antonio Spurs have home court advantage for tomorrow morning’s first leg of their best-of-seven NBA grand final series against the New York Knicks. San Antonio last won the Larry O’Brien trophy only 12 years ago while the Knicks have not reached the competition’s climax since 1999, when they lost 4-1 to the Spurs. The Knicks last picked up the silverware in 1973.
