WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: London City Lionesses appointed Eder Maestre as head coach today, nearly two weeks after the Women’s Super League club surprisingly sacked Jocelyn Precheur.
Precheur had guided London City to promotion and sixth place in the 12-team league halfway through the season, but the club’s hierarchy reportedly wanted to upgrade its style of play. Maestre most recently coached Tenerife’s women’s team in Spain’s top division.
The 39-year-old Spaniard had spent three seasons as assistant coach at Real Sociedad’s women’s team. He signed a contract through the 2027-28 season.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: West Ham have called time on Niclas Fullkrug’s disappointing spell at the club by confirming the German striker has joined AC Milan on loan.
Fullkrug joined the Hammers from Borussia Dortmund in 2024, but he struggled with injuries and started just 13 matches, scoring three goals.
The 32-year-old has moved to Italy on an initial loan deal with an option to join permanently at the end of the season.
MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Glasgow stalwart Duncan Weir is set for his final professional outing in Saturday’s United Rugby Championship match at home to Zebre.
The 34-year-old stand-off, who has made 162 appearances across two spells with Warriors, is preparing to hang up his boots after taking on a coaching role within the club’s academy.
Weir, who won 30 Scotland caps, has been named on the bench alongside academy scrum-half Jack Oliver, who is in line for his debut.
WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY: Hilary Knight is set to make her fifth Olympic appearance, and this time lead a younger, faster US women’s national team that’s favoured to win gold at the Milan Cortina Winter Games next month.
The 36-year-old Knight headlines the list as USA Hockey released its 23-player Olympic women’s roster today.
