WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Rangers slipped from the summit of the Scottish Women’s Premier League on Wednesday night after they lost 1-0 at Hearts and new table-toppers Celtic edged out Hibs by the same score.

Reigning champions Glasgow City beat Partick 4-1 to keep up the pressure in third, Aberdeen won 3-2 at Montrose, Spartans drew 2-2 with Motherwell and Hamilton thumped Dundee United 5-2 in the bottom-of-the-table clash.

MEN’S CRICKET: After every game in the last round of County Championship fixtures was affected by rain and ended in a draw early Division One pace-setters Essex, the only team to have won a match so far, face Lancashire at Chelmsford tomorrow.

Champions Surrey are at Kent, Hampshire take on Warwicks, Somerset are up against bottom club Nottinghamshire and Worcester decamp to Kidderminster to play Durham in tomorrow’s other fixtures.

MEN’S RUGBY UNION: United Rugby Championship actions returns tomorrow evening with second-placed Glasgow welcoming the Durban-based Sharks to Scotstoun.

Glasgow have won their last five URC games and sit just five points behind league leaders Leinster, who are in Johannesburg to face the Lions on Saturday.

Tomorrow night’s other game sees Cardiff travel to an Ulster side needing points to secure a top-eight finish and Champions Cup qualification spot.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: After scoring 23 points to help the LA Lakers beat New Orleans 110-106 and reach the NBA’s end of season play-offs, 39-year-old Lebron James has been included in the US basketball squad for the Paris Olympics.

He will be joined by fellow veterans Kevin Durrant, who is seeking his fourth gold medal, and 36-year-old Steph Curry, who has not previously appeared at the Olympics.
