Protesters take to Aberdeen's streets to protest against the US's far-right president's trip

SOCIALISTS from across Scotland came together on Saturday in solidarity with the Cuban people and in defence of its revolution.
The event was organised by the Scottish Cuba Solidarity Campaign on the 72nd anniversary of Cuba’s first faltering steps to freedom as a young Fidel Castro led a failed attack on Moncada barracks but succeeded in galvanising support for revolution.
A fundraising Curry for Cuba on Saturday afternoon was followed by an event at Glasgow’s Unity Books addressed by young trade unionist Maria Feeney and SCSC organiser Kath Campbell.
Ms Feeney, fresh from a visit to Cuba with her union, Unite, spoke movingly of the resilience shown by the people of Cuba in the face of the ongoing blockade by the United States.
She told comrades: “To see people taking pride in their work, with time for hobbies, baffled when we asked them about stress at work, really shows you that another world is possible.
“The sanctions against Cuba have never been tighter, the revolution is under pressure like never before, but the people of Cuba stand strong and we stand with them.
“Viva Cuba libre!”
