SNP and Labour round on Reform
Reform UK Scottish leader Lord Malcolm Offord speaks to the media outside Trinity Church in Larkhall, Lanarkshire, on the campaign trail for the May 7 Holyrood election, May 5, 2026

SNP and Scottish Labour leaders rounded on Reform “cranks” and each other on the eve of the Holyrood election today.

The SNP’s Westminster leader Stephen Flynn, who is making a bid for the Scottish parliamentary seat of Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine, urged voters to “slam shut” the door on Reform and return his party to a fifth term in office.

He warned that Reform leader Nigel Farage “is in first place” in England, but that in Scotland he can be beaten by the SNP.

“The SNP is the only party strong enough to stop Farage at the Scottish Borders and send him packing,” he said.

Fresh from predicting “Starmageddon” at the parliamentary elections in Wales and Scotland as well as England’s councils, he added: “Keir Starmer opened the door to Nigel Farage by breaking his promises and leaving voters absolutely scunnered — but people in Scotland can slam it shut by voting SNP on Thursday.”

Defying polling suggesting another SNP landslide as he addressed an eve-of-poll rally, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar took a swipe at the nationalist party’s record in office as he urged voters to rally behind his party to replace them.

“We have all seen the mess John Swinney and the SNP have made over those 20 years,” he said.

“Our NHS is struggling, family budgets are under pressure and too many people feel they are paying more and getting less.

“The SNP has had 20 years and Scotland has paid the price — give me five, and together we can build a better future.”

Turning his fire on Reform, who he branded today “a bunch of cranks and rejects that I want to be rejected at the polls,” Mr Sarwar said it offered only “grievance” rather than answers as he urged voters to reject their “poison.”

He said: “Only Scottish Labour can win in constituencies across Scotland, beat the SNP and deliver the change Scotland needs.

“Tomorrow, Scotland faces a simple choice: more of the same with John Swinney and the SNP, or change with Scottish Labour. The poison of Reform, or a better future for our country.

“I’m standing to fix the mess, get the basics right and build a better future for Scotland. So my message to voters is simple.

“Tomorrow, vote for change. Reject Reform. Beat the SNP. Change Scotland. Vote Scottish Labour.”
