SEVEN people have been arrested after Palestine Action shut down a weapons factory in Newcastle owned by the Israeli state.

A vehicle was used to block both entrances to Pearson Engineering, at Armstrong Works, which was acquired by Israeli arms firm Rafael in 2022, on Tuesday.

Others climbed on top of the security box and covered the premise in blood-red paint and unfurled a banner reading: “This factory kills kids.”

The activists were later removed and arrested by Northumbria police.

Three members of the public were also arrested for appearing to support the blockade.

Another supporter was arrested outside the police station while awaiting the release of those detained, Palestine Action said.

A Palestine Action spokesperson said: “The police are arresting supporters and activists who oppose the Newcastle weapons factory which is owned by the Israeli government. 

“All while they’ve done nothing about the fact that Pearson Engineering is owned by wanted war criminals. 

“The actions by the police are a demonstration of how the state favours war criminals over its own citizens.”

Northumbria Police were contacted for comment.
