Second MP quits Your Party a week before founding conference
Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana take part in a discussion on Your Party, their new political party, at The World Transformed conference, at Niamos Radical Arts Centre in Hulme, Manchester, October 10, 2025

A SECOND MP quit Your Party today, citing “many false allegations and smears made against me and others.”

Iqbal Mohamed’s departure comes just one week after Adnan Hussain said he was withdrawing from the “steering process” for the new left-wing party.

Mr Hussain cited concerns about factionalism and “veiled prejudice” against Muslims.

The loss of another MP also comes just a week before Zarah Sultana and Jeremy Corbyn’s party’s first annual conference is due to get under way in Liverpool.

Members are expected to decide on the party’s official name and whether to adopt a single or co-leadership model, as backed by Ms Sultana.

In a statement, Mr Mohamed said: “After careful consideration, I have decided to leave Your Party and continue serving as I was elected as an Independent member of Parliament for Dewsbury & Batley.

“The many false allegations and smears made against me and others, and reported as fact without evidence, have been surprising and disappointing.

“However, I am confident that my colleagues and I have acted professionally, patiently, and in good faith throughout.”

Blackburn MP Mr Hussain said he had initially agreed to support the foundation of Your Party because he believed in “building a political home with mass appeal” and “a force capable of challenging the rise of far-right rhetoric.”

Senior Your Party figures accused Ms Sultana this month of withholding some £800,000 in donations and membership data that were collected by MoU Operations Ltd while the party was being formally registered. She became its sole director last month.

Ms Sultana has said that she “is in the process of transferring all funds and data” but had been refused necessary documentation to conduct essential due diligence.
