Emily Ramsey joins Sheffield United on loan after agreeing long-term deal with Manchester United

MANCHESTER UNITED’S Emily Ramsey said she is “happy to be a blade” after joining Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season.

Ramsey penned a new deal with the Red Devils, who immediately loaned her out to gain first-team experience with the Women’s Championship side.

On her new deal, Ramsey said: “It’s an honour to sign a new contract at this club. From a young age Manchester United has been a big part of my life and to be here as part of a senior women’s team is a dream for me.

“I’m excited for what the future holds with this group of players and staff, and I just want to continue working hard and improving my game as much as possible.”

“I’m also looking forward to working with the coaches and players at Sheffield United, they are a great club and I know this experience will be really beneficial for my development over the next few months.”

Head coach Casey Stoney praised the young goalkeeper, who spent her youth career with United’s before leaving — only to return when the women’s team formed in 2018.

Stoney said: “Emily is a talented young keeper with a bright future ahead of her so it’s great to have her sign a new deal at the club. We see the hard work and dedication she puts in every day during training and this loan move to Sheffield United will give her invaluable experience and playing time which is perfect for her development.”

Sheffield United first-team manager Carla Ward added: “Emily comes with a lot of quality and already you can see she’s hungry to get going with us and show us what she’s about.

“It’s a great move at this time for both parties.”

The England under-21 international has made four appearances for United in all competitions.
