THE number of mosques and Islamic institutions targeted by anti-Muslim hate has reached its highest level in over 10 years, according to data gathered by Tell Mama.
The monitoring group found that 30 mosques and institutions had been targeted from June to October this year, the highest since the previous peak recorded after the murder of soldier Lee Rigby in 2013.
Commenting on the figures, Tell Mama director Iman Atta said: “We have an ongoing and enduring problem with anti-Muslim hate that is spreading out and affecting wider numbers of mosques and Islamic institutions.
“Such targeted anti-Muslim hate causes serious problems around social cohesion and also means that inter-twined there may well be extremism that is a driver within these attacks.
“Much, much more must be done tackling anti-Muslim hate by this government, and we continue to be the leading agency monitoring such events.”
