RESCUERS at an open-cast mine in China dug through tons of earth and rubble today as they searched for 48 people missing after a landslide.

The confirmed death toll from the disaster in Inner Mongolia’s Alxa League rose to five.

On Wednesday afternoon, one of the pit’s walls caved in, burying workers and lorries under rocks and sand.
