Rail regulators share RMT's concerns that Network Rail ‘modernisation’ plans are a ‘catastrophe waiting to happen’

RAIL regulators share RMT’s concerns about Network Rail’s plan to “modernise” the industry by slashing thousands of safety-critical jobs, the transport union said today.
Following a meeting with the Office of Rail and Road, general secretary Mick Lynch slammed the state-run infrastructure maintenance firm’s proposals as a “catastrophe waiting to happen.”
The union, which is currently consulting its members on Network Rail’s latest pay offer, has repeatedly warned that plans to meet £400 million of Tory government-mandated cost savings are a “serious safety threat.”
