PROTESTERS demonstrated outside a Yorkshire prison today in support of a Palestine Action activist being held there after being arrested during an occupation of an arms factory supplying Israel.
Around 50 people took part in the protest outside HMP Doncaster in South Yorkshire.
The prisoner, named only as Julian, was arrested on April 2 as one of four people who occupied the roof of arms manufacturer Teledyne Defence and Space in Shipley, West Yorkshire, halting production.
Teledyne is part of US-based international conglomerate Teledyne Technologies, which manufactures electronics systems for the aerospace and defence industries. Israel is among its customers.
One of Sunday’s protesters, who gave her name as Luxx, told the Morning Star: “People came from Birmingham, Bradford, Sheffield and Huddersfield. It was incredible.
“Julian has been incarcerated on remand for over a month. He is a political prisoner.
“We have been hearing from him and we know he is keeping strong and we are proud of him.”
She said that Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails had written in support of activists imprisoned in Britain.
“When we get arrested and face our so-called justice system we think of the prisoners there,” she said. “The harder the state tries to oppress us the closer we are to victory.
“Julian was part of an action against Teledyne and we will close Teledyne down for good.”
The company says its wares include “missile technology including lethality, guidance and accuracy.”
Palestine Action was formed in 2020 to mount direction against arms factories in Britain supplying Israel.
