Poor social housing ‘makes mental ill health get worse’
POOR social housing is making tenants’ pre-existing mental health problems worse, new research suggests.
Mental health charity Mind has found that the difficulties those with mental illnesses face in navigating the social housing system are hindering their recovery or even worsening their conditions.
Its research, published today, found that 33 per cent of social housing residents with mental health problems were dissatisfied with their homes, while 43 per cent had seen their mental health deteriorate as a result of where they live.
