WELSH nationalist leader Rhun ap Iorwerth took to the stage again on Saturday in conversation with Senedd Speaker Elin Jones.

Plaid Cymru, according to the pollsters, is en route to form the largest group in the 2026 Senedd, and the pair talked about the party’s readiness for government.

Asked how the party will move from its manifesto to a programme of government, Mr ap Iorwerth said: “We know money is tight but our priorities will be to fix the NHS and help children. Building for the future means giving children the best start in life we can.”

Mr ap Iorewerth said in Torfaen, a borough which contains Blaenavon, Pontypool and Cwmbran, just 18 per cent of young people went to university whereas in North Cardiff the figure was 80 per cent.

He described that disparity from poorer areas to affluent ones as wrong.

The pair also discussed the rise of the far right in Wales. The Plaid leader said that addressing that rise was important and progressive policies were the way to deal with it.
