Newham residents join service charge strike wave

HOUSEHOLDS at an estate in Newham have become the latest to join a growing service charge strike across London as families warn that “staggering costs have taken us to tipping point.”
Almost 30 leaseholders and renters at the site in the east of the capital are refusing to pay respective charges after launching the action on Tuesday.
One resident told the Social Housing Action Campaign (SHAC) that costs are “substantially higher than other comparable buildings in the area,” despite cuts to services such as reduced window cleaning and concierge staffing.
