Met Police officers investigated over handling of Mohamed Al-Fayed complaints
Harrods owner Mohamed al Fayed, December 14, 2006

A MET Police officer and four former officers are being over their handling of sexual abuse allegations against Mohamed Al-Fayed.

All five are facing a misconduct probe after more than 400 allegations were levied against the late owner of Harrods.

Al-Fayed, who died in 2023 aged 94, has been the subject of claims dating back to 1977.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation into the Met officers was launched in January 2025 and is based on reports made by four people.

A statement from the England and Wales’ police watchdog said: “At this stage, five individuals, a serving Met officer and four former Met officers, have been advised that they are being investigated for potential misconduct.

“At the end of our investigation, we will decide whether any current or former officers have, or would have had if they were still serving, a disciplinary case to answer.”

A Met spokesperson said it was assisting in the investigation, adding: “The serving of notices does not mean that misconduct proceedings will necessarily follow.

“Our investigation into individuals who may have facilitated or enabled offending by Mohamed Al Fayed remains active.”

The Met previously said it was looking into individuals who could have enabled Al-Fayed in his crimes, said to have taken place between 1977 and 2014.

The force announced in March that it had interviewed a man in his 60s under caution over allegations in connection with the Fayed investigation, including claims linked to human trafficking, rape facilitating and sexual assault.

Three women were also interrogated in February and March on suspicion of aiding and abetting rape and sexual assault, assisting the commission of sexual offences and human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
