SHEKIERA MARTINEZ says she has “loved every minute” of her remarkable first few months in a West Ham shirt.
Joining last summer after eight years with Eintracht Frankfurt, the 23-year-old German forward then spent the first half of this season on loan at Freiburg before making her Hammers debut in January as a substitute against Chelsea.
Since then, Martinez has scored 10 times in 10 Women’s Super League starts.
Having been named Player of the Month after notching three goals in March, including a brace in a 2-2 draw at Chelsea, she has now also taken the award for April, in which she netted four in a 7-1 thrashing of Crystal Palace.
Martinez told the PA news agency: “I’m really happy at West Ham and have loved every minute being here.
“Playing in England was always a dream of mine as the WSL is the best league in the world.
“I was a little bit nervous initially but my team-mates and coaches have given me a lot of confidence and support since January and I want to keep repaying them all with my performances on the pitch.
“Everyone made me feel at home straight away. It only took me two days in the building at Chadwell Heath to feel settled. My partner also moved across to England with me so it was a big move for the both of us but we are both really happy in London.
“I’m really happy to be here and I think that’s showing by my performances on the pitch. I’m excited by the potential of this group moving forwards. I think it’s a really exciting time to play for West Ham.”
Martinez admits she “can’t believe” she has won back-to-back player of the month awards, saying: “The game against Crystal Palace was a crazy game. For the team to score seven goals was incredible.
“I’m always so happy to score but to score four goals in one game was a special feeling.
“I have a lot of confidence in my own ability and I know that the manager and my team-mates do as well. I want to keep getting better and better and playing under a manager like Rehanne Skinner I’m sure I’ll be able to reach my potential.”
West Ham, who have claimed 15 points from their 11 league matches in 2025, are seventh with the chance to finish sixth when they conclude their campaign at Leicester on Saturday.
Martinez is in the running for the Golden Boot, two goals behind joint-leaders Alessia Russo and Khadija Shaw, although she said: “It’s not something I think about to be honest. I will always try to score when I can but the most important thing is getting the three points at the weekend.”
