Iranian oil facilities hit hard by US and Israeli air strikes

IRAN’S oil facilities were hit by a massive US-Israeli attack for the first time in the early hours of this morning.

Air strikes turned the skies black over Tehran and sparked huge fires as they killed at least four tanker drivers, adding to an overall death toll of more than 1,300.

Israel also continued to batter Lebanon, killing at least four people in an attack on a Beirut hotel.

Around a dozen people have been killed by Iranian air strikes in Israel, according to authorities.

The strikes by the US and Israelis targeted four oil storage facilities and an oil production transfer centre in Tehran and Alborz province, according to the Fars news agency.

The Aghdadieh oil warehouse in north east Tehran, Tehran refinery in the south of the city, Shahran oil depot in the west and Karaj City oil depot were all hit.

Fars reported that, despite the attack, “there is no shortage of fuel distribution.”

In a statement, the Israelis said they had struck “a number of fuel storage facilities in Tehran” being used to “operate military infrastructure.”

As Iran continued to face pressure from other Middle East countries to stop attacking targets in their countries, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran’s attacks were a response to the war imposed by the US and Israel.

In an interview with NBC on Saturday, Mr Araghchi said the conflict was “imposed on us,” describing it as “unprovoked, unwarranted and illegal.”

Mr Araghchi said Iran’s retaliatory actions are directed at US bases, installations and assets in the region, “even if they are located on the territory of neighbouring countries.”

Meanwhile, Israeli air strikes killed eight people in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese Health Ministry said – and local media reported that an Israeli drone hit a hotel in Beirut, killing four and wounding 10 others.

Israel said it had targeted key commanders of Iran’s Qud Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp, but did not name them.

The hotel was widely known to be housing displaced people fleeing the war in southern Lebanon and Beirut.

The deaths come on top of at least 47 others killed Saturday in Israeli strikes.

Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah claimed today that it had launched rocket attacks at Israeli forces and that its fighters were engaged in fierce clashes with the Israelis near the border town of Aitaroun.
