Hundreds of jobs face the axe at British Steel coking plant in Scunthorpe
The British Steel Ltd steelworks in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire

BRITISH STEEL workers are trapped between a “greedy employer and a shambolic Tory government,” Unite warned today, after bosses announced hundreds of job cuts.

The Chinese-owned company confirmed up to 260 positions face the axe when it closes coking ovens at its Scunthorpe plant in Lincolnshire.

The move, which the Community union said would have a “catastrophic impact on jobs and British steel production,” is needed to “overcome global economic challenges and build a green and sustainable future,” management claimed.
