Housing association tenants ‘without heating and hot water since September’

HOUSING association tenants have been left without heating or hot water since September last year, a campaign group has said, amid freezing temperatures.

Peabody Housing Association is accused of repeatedly ignoring their pleas to get the problems at two large tower blocks fixed.

The association is said to have supplied some of the residents in Hoey Court and Massey House in Bromley-by-Bow, east London, with blow-heaters instead.

One tenant told the housing campaign group SHAC: “It is almost unbelievable that Peabody is allowed to continue to make us suffer.

“For some of us, these issues started back in September and we are now in January.

“What kind of an organisation leaves vulnerable people, elderly, children and families without essential services in the coldest months of the year?”

SHAC secretary and co-founder Suzanne Muna said: “The lack of urgency by Peabody is staggering.”

Peabody was contacted for comment.
