HOSPITALS and pharmacies will face “significant disruption” to their medical supplies due to strike action starting next week, Unite warned today.

Nearly 120 workers at Movianto’s specialist medical warehousing in Bedford will walk out from September 9 to October 7 after rejecting a 3.5 per cent pay offer, the union said.

The pickers and forklift drivers are angry over lack of paid breaks and poverty wages, a spokesman added, with medical supplies across southern England set to be affected.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said that both “have more than enough money to offer these workers paid breaks and a fair pay rise.”

The union’s national officer Alan Brkljac said: “Movianto is entirely responsible for the widespread disruption to medical supplies its greed will cause. It can fully afford to end poverty pay and provide paid breaks but is choosing not too out of greed.”

Movianto, which is part of the multibillion-pound Yusen group, was contacted for comment.
