A HEADTEACHER is facing prison after pleading guilty to attacking his deputy at their secondary school in south Wales.

Anthony John Felton, 54, admitted attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to Richard Pyke, 51, during a hearing at Swansea Crown Court today.

Police were called to St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Comprehensive School in Aberavon on March 5, where Mr Felton had been appointed headteacher in September 2023.

Details of the offence and the circumstances surrounding it were not given, but the court heard there was a “unique background” to the incident where Mr Felten inflicted “a number of blows” to Mr Pyke, caught on CCTV.

Judge Paul Thomas KC said the offence was so serious that only a prison sentence could be justified.

He remanded Mr Felton into custody until he is sentenced on April 25.

Police said Mr Pyke had been discharged from hospital following the incident, suffering minor injuries.
