German police insist copper accused of racially abusing Farah was doing his duty

THE GERMAN copper accused of racially harassing Mo Farah was “properly carrying out his duty,” police insisted today.

The Olympic champion filmed an altercation he had with a uniformed police officer at Munich airport yesterday, posting it on social media with the comment,“Sad to see racial harassment in this day and age. 2018!”

Farah failed to capture any racial abuse in the 37-second clip, but a spokesman for the runner said he had felt it was “racially motivated and that he was unfairly treated by the airport security staff.

But a German Federal Police spokesperson hit back today, saying: “I cannot see any indication of racial harassment by the Federal Police officer at all.”

The police statement said a private security company was responsible for security checks.

“It seemed that Sir Mo Farah did not agree with this passenger security check performed on him and blamed this check a racist measure. Obviously he was very upset.”

It said the police officer was called over by security staff because Farah refused to leave and then started filming the area, which is forbidden.

Another officer was called over to help, but “Mr Farah persistently ignored this second police order so that the officer slightly touched him and tried to direct him away from the security check area to the shopping and gate section what you can see in the video,” said the statement.

“Finally the Federal Police officer was properly carrying out his duty. I cannot see any indication of racial harassment by the Federal Police officer at all.”
