TAYLOR FRITZ claimed a straight-sets win over Lorenzo Musetti on the second day of the ATP Finals in Turin yesterday.
The world number six battled to a 6-3 6-4 win over Musetti to clinch victory in the Jimmy Connors group.
Fritz managed to find the break in a lengthy fourth game of the first set but faced a tough challenge against Musetti, who worked hard to save a set point.
Fritz then served out the set and encountered another mammoth string of deuces in the opening game of the second set, where Musetti managed to save four break points and hold his serve.
However the Italian served back-to-back double faults in the third game to hand Fritz the break before both players held their serve in a tight contest.
Fritz served two aces in the 10th game to see out the set and open his campaign with a win.
Earlier in the day, British doubles pair Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski claimed a 6-3 7-5 win over Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic.
