ELECTION fever gripped First Minister’s questions today as the Senedd discussed the legality of the attacks on Iran and trade union funding in Wales.

Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth deplored the actions of US President Donald Trump and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as reckless and said the action was in breach of international law.

Eluned Morgan said: “I think the situation in the Middle East is deeply concerning,” and said she had issued a written statement.

The Plaid leader had a dig at the FM’s election promise to eradicate homelessness in 2034 which he said was originally promised by this year.

“Why should Labour be rewarded for failure in this forthcoming election?” Mr ap Iorwerth asked.

“We’re very proud of the work that we’ve done during this Senedd term when it comes to homelessness,” Ms Morgan said.

Fresh from the launch of his party’s Senedd manifesto, Welsh Conservative leader Darren Millar was worried about the funding of Labour Together.

He claimed a number of Labour constituencies in Wales had received funding from the organisation and wanted Welsh Labour to return the money.

Mr Millar also attacked the public money paid to trade unions in Wales from the Wales Union Learning Fund (Wulf).

“I want to be clear that I was absolutely unaware of any financial contributions from Labour Together,” Ms Morgan said.

The First Minister said she was proud of her relationship with the labour movement. 

“We are also very pleased to have introduced things like Wulf funding and it’s a programme that I hope will be committed to in future.”
