GARDENERS working in the capital’s most prestigious parks are demanding bosses return to talks as GMB members announced strike dates today.

Staff employed by contractor Idverde in west London’s Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens and St James Park are set to walk out on September 1, 2 and 3.

GMB members said their action was the result of a dispute over pay.

Regional organiser Anna Lee said the gardeners are “skilled, experienced professionals and they know what their labour is worth.

“We’re calling on Idverde to get back round the table and offer our members a fair pay deal.”

A Royal Parks spokesperson said Idverde and its workers play an important role in ensuring parks “remain high-quality, welcoming and well-maintained spaces for the millions of people who visit them each year,” adding that “the terms and conditions of employment are a matter for Idverde as the employer.”

A Idverde spokesperson said: “We recognise the concerns that have been raised and remain committed to working constructively with The Royal Parks, GMB and ACAS to support ongoing discussions.

“Our focus is on reaching a positive resolution for all parties while ensuring the continued care and maintnance of the parks. We value the dedication of everyone involved and hope a mutually acceptable agreement can be reached as soon as possible.”
