Farage under investigation over £5 million ‘gift’
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage walks through the Member's Lobby of the Houses of Parliament in London to the House of Lords to hear the King's Speech during the State Opening of Parliament, May 13, 2026

PARLIAMENT’S sleaze watchdog has opened an investigation into a £5 million gift to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage from a party donor, it was revealed today.

Mr Farage was referred to parliamentary commissioner for standards Daniel Greenberg over the undeclared gift from Thailand-based cryptocurrency investor Christopher Harborne in 2024.

He previously insisted that there is “no case to answer” over the payment, which he said was not connected to his political activity and was needed to pay for private security for the rest of his life.

The far-right figure is reported to have received the money before he announced he would stand in Clacton in the 2024 general elections.

It is understood that the investigation has been opened under rule five of the MPs’ code of conduct, which specifies that new MPs should register relevant financial interests received in the 12 months before their election within one month of entering Parliament.

A Reform UK spokesman said Mr Farage’s office is in communication with the commissioner, adding: “We look forward to this being put to bed once and for all.”
