Employers should provide 'disability passports,' GMB delegates demand

DISABILITY “passports” should be offered in all workplaces to give workers greater dignity in their lives, trade unionists said yesterday.

Delegates at the GMB’s annual conference in Brighton have called on their union to campaign for a wider introduction of the Reasonable Adjustment Passport for employees who need their health considered by management.

It was tried as a scheme in several workplaces in February but delegates want it to be adopted across the board.

Delegate Kevin Flanagan said: “People are people — it’s not the disability, it’s what they contribute to the world of work. That’s what we value.

“I have met so many disabled workers who have been totally frustrated because they have got reasonable adjustments, and all of those adjustments can go out of the window.

“Our vision is where all workplaces are accessible and inclusive — where every worker is able to participate fully and equally.

“That’s the minimum request.”
