Delegates pack the Morning Star social at STUC Congress
Editor Ben Chacko addresses the Morning Star STUC social in Dundee

OVER £500 was raised for the Fighting Fund at a crammed Morning Star social at the STUC Congress in Dundee on Tuesday night.

Delegates packed the city’s Bank Bar from 7pm till midnight and were treated to poetry and song, including a rendition of Robert Burns’s Tam O’Shanter — and a feminist retort to it — by Kate Ramsden and an acapella performance of Joe Hill by Morning Star business manager Jimmy Macintyre.

Editor Ben Chacko thanked delegates for their support for the labour movement’s daily and addressed the need to build readership and secure its future as it approaches its 100th year. Donations and raffle ticket sales amounted to £535.50.
