SJOEKE NUSKEN scored a late winner to lift Chelsea into second spot in the WSL after an thrilling 4-3 victory over Aston Villa and boost their hopes of finishing in the Champions League places.
Villa came from 3-1 down to draw level at the break and looked on course to further dent Chelsea’s top-three hopes.
Chasity Grant gave Villa an early lead and after Chelsea’s Sam Kerr, Naomi Girma and Lauren James scored in the space of seven minutes, Kirsty Hanson’s quickfire double left the scores level at the break.
However, Nusken proved to be the hero as she struck with eight minutes remaining to lift the Blues back above Manchester United and Arsenal, still nine points behind leaders Manchester City.
Oona Siren’s spectacular second-half volley earned West Ham an important point in their quest for safety after they drew 1-1 with London City Lionesses.
London City were on course for a first win in five when Jana Fernandez gave them a first-half lead but in a contest which otherwise lacked real quality, Siren produced a looping volley which ensures the Hammers will stay out of the relegation zone this week.
