Chelsea 1-1 Huddersfield Town
AMAR AZAM reports from Stamford Bridge

David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town secured their Premier League status with this battling draw that dented Chelsea’s top four aspirations.

Striker Laurent Depoitre gave the away side the lead shortly after half time before Marcos Alonso equalised for Chelsea on 62 minutes. Despite chances for Chelsea to score, the visitors’ defence refused to be breached again.

At the final whistle, the Huddersfield players and coaching squad celebrated joyfully.

“We didn’t have to rely on other teams, we’ve done it on our own,” said Wagner. “Nobody expected it apart from us.”

“This is an unbelievable achievement, we have a further season in the Premier League. Everyone knows the circumstances that our club compete with these top clubs.”

Meanwhile, Conte, who takes his side to Newcastle United on the final day of the season, was coy about whether this was his last match at home as Chelsea boss.

“For this season, for sure, it is my last game here,” said the Italian. “Not only me, but the players too. I don’t have anything to add. It is not my task, there is a club to judge the situation and then take the best decision.
