Brown delivers silver medal lift for England at Commonwealth Games
Isabella Brown of England in the Women's 77kg at the SEC Armadillo during day six of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, July 29, 2026

ISABELLA BROWN held her nerve to win England’s second weightlifting medal of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games with silver in the women’s -77kg category today.

Brown missed both her opening lifts of 77kg in the opening snatch portion of the competition before securing it at the third attempt to avoid early disqualification.

She achieved a Games-record 132kg in the clean-and-jerk, but it was not enough to overhaul gold medallist Seine Stowers of Samoa, while Laura Hughes of Wales grabbed an impressive bronze.

Brown said: “It’s pretty special – it wasn’t how I wanted it to go but to come away with silver, I can’t be mad about that.

“There’s definitely work to be done but the fact that I turned it on in the clean-and-jerk and came away with a personal best proves that I’m a fighter.”
