DOZENS of campaigners travelled across Scotland today in the fight to keep Ardrossan’s historic ferry link with Arran open.
Despite a six-year delay to the delivery of a new ferry on the lifeline link, it emerged it is too large to dock in Ardrossan, with the resulting 20-mile diversion to Troon not only infuriated travellers, but also devastating Ardrossan’s fragile economy.
Jay Kramer of Arran for Ardrossan Harbour told the Star: “We want action. [Transport Secretary] Fiona Hyslop said: ‘we’re going to look to renationalise,’ but since she made that statement, nothing has happened.”
Fresh from challenging the government on the issue at First Minister’s Questions, West of Scotland MSP Katy Clark told the rally: “What has happened is a complete disaster for Ardrossan, but for Arran also.
“It’s the shortest route, it’s the fastest route, and because it’s been there for 190 years, all the infrastructure is on that route.
“The only way we get victory is if we battle hard and we make sure our voices are heard. I assure you, your presence has already been felt.”
