Badenoch urged to suspend Truss
Liz Truss during the Conservative Party Conference at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, September 30, 2024

TORY leader Kemi Badenoch is under pressure to act against her disgraced predecessor Liz Truss after the former prime minister called for a Trump-style uprising in Britain.

Liberal Democrat deputy leader Daisy Cooper called on Ms Badenoch to suspend Truss from the Tory Party.

“We already know what a Liz Truss revolution looks like, and people are still paying for it every month in their mortgages.

“We should be taking no lectures on what our country needs from a former PM who crashed the economy in 44 days, leaving families paying the price in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis.

“Kemi Badenoch should show some leadership and revoke Truss’s membership from the Conservative Party for wanting to turn Britain into a Trump tribute act.”

Ms Truss, who now mainly touts herself around the US hard-right lecture and talk-show circuit, told Sky News: “There’s no doubt we’ve lost our way.

“But I think what is happening now in Britain — the people are now realising how bad the situation is, and I think there is going to be massive pressure for institutional change in this country.”

She added that what was needed was similar “to Trump delivering the revolution in the US. That is what we need, and I think that will happen.”

Although Ms Badenoch is consistently embarrassed by Truss’s outbursts, she is unlikely to act since the ex-premier’s economic policies continuing to have a following on the Tory right.

Ms Truss has not ruled out a political comeback, touting herself as a Trumpian insurgent.
