Veteran cleaner and strike leader fights union victimisation at LSE, union alleges
Veteran cleaner and strike leader Mildred Simpson [United Voices of the World (UVW) union]

THE London School of Economics is subjecting a veteran cleaner and strike leader to union victimisation via flimsy disciplinary action, her union alleged yesterday.

Mildred Simpson, who has worked at the central London university for 21 years, is currently under formal disciplinary investigation after being accused of finishing three shifts 15 minutes early two years ago, according to United Voices of the World (UVW).

But the union argued that the Jamaican-born worker, who is facing dismissal as she approaches retirement age, is being punished for successfully leading her outsourced colleagues in a 2016 strike which eventually saw them brought in-house the following year.
