Trump called on Australian PM to help discredit the Mueller inquiry, officials reveal
US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump asked Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison for help in discrediting the Mueller inquiry, Australian officials revealed today.

They confirmed Mr Trump called Mr Morrison to help find evidence against the inquiry – which investigated whether or not Mr Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 presidential election – and that the PM agreed.

The Mueller inquiry was partly triggered following Australia’s then High Commissioner to the UK Alexander Downer’s claim that former adviser to Mr Trump George Papadopoulos had revealed to him in May 2016 that Moscow had incriminating “dirt” on Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton.
