US PRESIDENT Donald Trump levelled some of his sharpest criticism at his Russian counterpart on Sunday as Moscow pounded Kiev and other Ukrainian cities with drones and missiles.
President Trump wrote in a social media post: “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely crazy!”
He said President Putin is “needlessly killing a lot of people,” and that “missiles and drones are being shot into cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever.”
The US president said that if President Putin wanted to conquer all of Ukraine, it would “lead to the downfall of Russia!”
The attack, which killed at least 12 people, was the largest aerial assault since Russia’s invasion of the country in February 2022, according to Ukrainian officials.
In response, Moscow spokesman Dmitry Peskov thanked President Trump for his work on bringing Ukraine and Russia together for talks and said: “This is a very important moment which is connected to an emotional overload of everyone involved, and emotional reactions.”
President Trump also expressed frustration with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying that he is “doing his country no favours by talking the way he does.”
“Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop.”
