SECURITY staff at one of the world’s most luxurious stores have backed a call for strike action by a “stonking majority.”

Unite members at Harrods of London have voted 97 per cent in favour of withdrawing their labour.

The workers, who run security and CCTV systems at the posh department store, have been provoked by bosses enforcing a below-inflation pay offer.

They are also opposed to unpaid training days and a requirement to have their rotas and other work necessities collected from a location separate from the store 15 minutes before work begins.

Unite regional officer Balvinder Bir said: “The stonking majority in favour of strike action underlines our members’ strength of feeling on these issues.

“Harrods management are now drinking in the last chance saloon. Only by making an improved pay offer and ending the injustice of unpaid work can they avoid strike action.

“If strikes go ahead, then it will greatly disrupt the smooth running of the prestigious store and will embarrass Harrods’ brand nationally and internationally.”
