ANDY BURNHAM has been warned that approving the controversial Rosebank oil field would be a betrayal of young people as a consultation on its future ends on Monday.
More than 80 MPs have vowed to oppose drilling the country’s largest untapped oil and gas field sited north west of the Shetland Islands.
Clover Hogan, of Parents for the Future, said: “Approving new North Sea licences would be a betrayal of young people and generations to come.”
Uplift deputy director Robert Palmer urged the PM to “acknowledge that this project will make the climate crisis worse and do nothing but rip off Britain.”
WWF Scotland director Lang Banks said that its approval would “simply lead to the further destruction of some of the country’s most precious places and wildlife.”
End Fuel Poverty Coalition co-ordinator Simon Francis added that “it would do nothing to bring down the fuel costs that households here are struggling to pay” as the field’s oil would be for export.
